What is sugaring?

Sugaring removes hair with a paste made from sugar, lemon and water. At NewskinLA we use KEKO, a 100% organic sugaring paste. The paste is applied against the direction of growth and flicked off with it, which pulls hair from the root without sticking to live skin the way wax does. That is why it hurts less, irritates less, and is the better option for sensitive skin and anyone who gets ingrown hairs from shaving or waxing.

Results last 3 to 4 weeks. New clients come every 2 to 3 weeks; after 3 to 4 sessions the hair grows back finer and slower, and most people move to every 4 to 6 weeks.

The paste is water-soluble, so there's no residue, and nothing on it can't be eaten. Brazilian and bikini are the most-booked areas, followed by underarms and legs.

What to expect during sugaring in Burbank

Does sugaring hurt less than waxing?
Yes for most people. The paste sticks to hair, not live skin, and removes in the direction of growth, so there's less pulling on the skin. It still pinches; it's hair removal.
How long does hair need to be?
About 1/8 to 1/4 inch, roughly 10 days after shaving. Shorter and the paste can't grip it.
How long does it last?
3 to 4 weeks. After 3 to 4 sessions hair comes back finer and slower and most clients stretch to 4 to 6 weeks.
Can I sugar during my period?
Yes, with a tampon or cup for Brazilian and bikini. Skin is more sensitive that week, so some clients avoid it.
Will it help ingrown hairs?
Yes. Sugaring is the usual fix for people who get ingrowns from shaving or waxing. Exfoliating from day 3 keeps them away.
How should I prepare?
Clean, dry skin with no lotion, oil or deodorant. No tanning, heavy exfoliation, retinol or acids for 48 hours before. Prices by area are below.
