What is LED light therapy?

LED light therapy uses specific wavelengths of light, without heat or UV, to change how skin cells behave. Blue light targets the bacteria involved in acne. Red light reduces inflammation, calms redness and supports collagen and healing. There is no downtime and nothing is applied to the skin, which makes it one of the few treatments that suits every skin type, including sensitive and rosacea-prone skin.

At NewskinLA it is booked on its own as a 45-minute calming session, or added to the end of a facial or peel, where it speeds recovery and extends the results. It is also the treatment Anna recommends between peels while skin is healing.

Who LED light therapy is for

  • Active acne and inflamed breakouts
  • Redness, sensitivity and rosacea-prone skin
  • Healing after a peel, extractions or dermaplaning
  • Dull skin that needs a boost before an event, with zero downtime
  • Anyone who can't tolerate acids or exfoliation

‍

Not recommended if

  • Epilepsy or a history of seizures triggered by light
  • Photosensitizing medication (some antibiotics, isotretinoin, certain diuretics)
  • Open wounds or an active skin infection
  • Pregnancy: red light is generally considered safe, but tell Anna so she can adjust
  • Recent eye surgery; protective goggles are worn regardless

What to expect during an LED session in Burbank

  1. Cleanse. Makeup and SPF come off so the light reaches the skin.
  2. Goggles on. Eye protection for the whole session.
  3. Light on. The LED panel sits a few inches from your face. You feel nothing, or mild warmth. Most people nap.
  4. Serum and SPF. A calming serum and sunscreen to finish.
  5. Plan. Anna sets the cadence: weekly for acne, or as needed for healing and events.

Acne facial FAQ

Does LED light therapy work for acne?
Blue light reduces the bacteria that drive breakouts and red light calms the inflammation around them. On its own it helps; combined with the Acne Clarifying Facial and a proper routine it works faster.
How many sessions will I need?
For active acne, weekly for 4 to 6 weeks. For calming after a peel or before an event, one session does the job. Series pricing is below.
Is it safe for rosacea and sensitive skin?
Yes. Red LED is one of the few in-studio treatments that calms rosacea rather than triggering it. Nothing is applied and there's no heat.
Does it hurt or burn?
No. LED has no heat and no UV. Most clients fall asleep.
Can I combine it with a peel or facial?
Yes, and you should. Red light after a peel or extractions shortens the redness and healing time.
Is it the same as the LED mask I can buy?
Same idea, much stronger panel. Home masks are fine for maintenance between studio sessions.
Who should skip LED?
Anyone with epilepsy or light-triggered seizures, on photosensitizing medication (some antibiotics, isotretinoin), or with an open wound or active infection. Tell Anna if you're pregnant so she can adjust.
