What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation. A sterile surgical blade is drawn across the skin at a shallow angle, lifting off the top layer of dead cells and the fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) with it. It is not shaving; the blade removes buildup that cleansers and scrubs leave behind, which is why skin looks so bright afterward and why makeup sits flat.

At NewskinLA, dermaplaning is done as a full facial: cleanse, the dermaplane, then a hydrating mask and serum so the freshly exposed skin is fed rather than stripped. It is the treatment Anna recommends the week before a wedding, shoot or event.

The hair does not grow back thicker or darker. It comes back the same as before, usually in 3 to 4 weeks.

Who dermaplaning is for

What to expect during dermaplaning in Burbank

Will my hair grow back thicker?
No. Vellus hair grows back exactly as it was, usually in 3 to 4 weeks. Cutting it doesn't change the follicle.
Does dermaplaning hurt?
No. It feels like a light scraping. No numbing needed.
Can I do it if I have acne?
Not on active breakouts; the blade can spread bacteria. Clear the skin first with the Acne Clarifying Facial, then dermaplane.
How often should I get it?
Every 4 weeks keeps skin smooth. Once before an event works too.
Dermaplaning or microdermabrasion?
